Get The Look: Mardi Gras Glitter Glam
Get out the glitter and dust off your dancing shoes because the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is here!
To celebrate I got glitter glam with loads of lashes and now you can get the look too!
Hydrate the skin using M.A.C Prep + Prime Fix+ and then apply Too Faced Primed and Poreless Primer to the entire face to create a smooth base and to reduce any visible pores. Prep the lips using a lip scrub and balm to make them soft and smooth.
Because we are working with Glitter which can get a little messy I am going to do my eye makeup first. That way if there is any fall out we can clean it up before creating a flawless base.
Shape and feather the brows using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in 'Medium Brown' and with an angle brush fill in using the Taupe shadow form the Bobbi Brown Brow Kit. Lightly apply the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel to hold any natural brow hairs in place.
To define the brows and brow bone take the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer on an angled concealer brush and lightly apply under the brows and blend out.
Apply Lorac Behind The Scenes Eye Primer on the eyelids to create a smooth base.
I then apply my secret weapon to getting a precise and clean eyeshadow application - Shadow Shields! Simply peel off the outer tabs and apply under the eye, following the lash line. This acts as a guide for your shadow application and ensures any excess shadow lands on the shield and not your face which will definitely come in handy when we start applying the glitter!
With a fluffy blending brush apply a light purple shadow (I used 'Muse' from the Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Eyeshadow Palette) into the crease to create a transition shade. Then get a flat brush and pack on a dark purple shadow to the mobile lid (I used 'Anthem'). This area will be getting covered in glitter so don't spend too much time making it perfect.
Now comes the fun part: Glitter! For the mobile lid I used Eye Kandy Glitter in 'Tiny Tart' and for the brow highlight I used NYX Glitter on the Go in 'Glam Gold'. The trick to applying the glitter is Liquid Sugar. This is a must for an artists kit especially if you plan on doing editorial looks or face painting as it is a water based sealer that bonds glitter and metallic’s to your eyelids, lips or any other skin surface.
Pour a small drop of Liquid Sugar onto a disposable applicator brush and pat it onto the mobile lid (over the light purple shadow). Then using another clean disposable applicator brush, pick up a small amount of purple glitter and pack it on top of the Liquid Sugar while it is still wet. Working with small amounts will reduce fall out and will make it easier to control. Continue doing this over the entire mobile lid until you get the desired coverage and look you like. Then get another clean disposable applicator brush and do the same to the brow bone using the gold glitter.
Carefully remove the Shadow Shield to reveal your clean, precise shadow line and to discard any shadow or glitter fall out they may have caught. For any additional glitter which might be on your face just get a clean powder brush and dust it off.
For the lower lash line take a pencil brush and apply a dark purple shadow (I used 'Echo') starting from the outer corner and bringing it 3/4 along. Then get a clean fluffy brush and blend it out.
Line the upper waterline with a black kohl eyeliner. I used the Make Up For Ever Black Kohl Eyeliner. Leave the lower waterline natural.
Highlight and conceal under the eyes and using Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer and blend out with a damp Beauty Blender. Set both the eyes and face using Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Setting Powder.
Contour the face using Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in 'Luminous Bronze Light' and add some colour to your cheeks with the Too Faced Pink Leopard Blushing Bronzer.
Coat the lashes with Milani Lash Trifecta Lengthens + Curls + Separates Mascara before applying some OTT lashes to create ultimate lash drama! I used Manic Panic 'Violet Night' Foil Glam Lashes.
To define the lash line and hide the lash band, sweep the Sephora Liquid Liner over the top lash line.
Blot the lips with a tissue to remove any excess balm then using a nude lip liner, line the lips and fill them in. I used the Too Faced Perfect Lips Lip Liner in 'Nude'.
For the lips I used Eye Kandy Glitter in 'Tootie Fruitie'. With a clean disposable applicator brush, paint the lips with Liquid Sugar (like we did with the glitter on the eyes) and pick up a small amount of pink glitter and pack it on top of the Liquid Sugar while it is still wet. Continue doing this on both the top and bottom lip until you get the desired coverage and look you like. For any glitter fall out dust off with a clean powder brush.
