Lip Routine: Pout On Point

Marisa Robinson Makeup Artist Pout On Point

I like to start any makeup look, no matter how natural or glam, by prepping the base which includes my lips.

Below I share my easy 4 step lip care routine and what products I like to use to get my pout on point!

Using a a lip scrub removes dry skin and is the first step in my lip prep routine to create a super soft and smooth base for my lip products to sit on.

As I shared in my past Believe The Hype post, I LOVE the Jeffree Star Velour Lip Scrub in Mojito and use it regularly as part of my lip care regimen.

To use this particular scrub, you apply a scoop to your lips and rub them together. This massages the scrub into the top and bottom lip and removes dry skin.

To remove any excess scrub, simply wipe away to reveal smooth lips ready for some moisture!

Once I have used any kind of body or lip scrub I like to put some moisture back into the skin by applying a lip balm or butter. This hydrates and helps the lips stay soft and supple.

I always seem to have 4 or 5 lip balms floating around in my bag and I rotate between my following faves on the daily:

Burt's Bees Pomegranate Lip Balm
I am obsessed with pomegranates so this all natural balm was a must have!

NIVEA Pearly Shine
I love the pearly shimmer it adds to my lips especially on those minimal makeup days!

Natralus Natural Paw Paw Lip Butter
The newest member to the family, I love that this lip butter is thick and creamy without being sticky.

Antipodes Kiwi Seed Oil Lip Conditioner
The pure green kiwi seed and avocado oil blend glides on to deeply condition and nourish the lips.

If I want to create a plumper pout I use the Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme. Feel the tingle as your lips appear immediately fuller.

I like to leave the balm or butter on to work its magic while I do the rest of my makeup, leaving my lip colour until last. So just before I am ready to apply my lipstick I will blot my lips with a clean tissue to remove any excess product, revealing a soft and smooth base for my lipstick to glide on to.

The hardest part of all - which colour and finish to wear?!

I like to choose a colour that will complement the rest of my makeup or outfit and the finish is determined by what kind of look I want to create (matte, shine, satin, gloss etc.).

When I wear a liquid lipstick (especially if it is in a matte finish) I will ALWAYS follow these steps. No matter how amazing the formula is, no liquid lipstick will be done justice on dry, chapped lips.

So no matter what lipstick you decide to wear you can rest assured your pout will be on point with my easy 4 step lip prep!
