3 Motivational Must Reads - July 2018

 3 Motivational Must Reads - July 2018

I must admit I am not much of a reader. I am renown for buying books, reading a few pages and then putting it on a shelf for it never to be touched again. But lately I have found myself hooked on some inspiring and motivating books and e-books which I can't put down and have read cover to cover!

In this post I am going to share 3 books I have read this month which have set my soul on fire!

I read this book in a weekend and I must have highlighted 85% of the pages! As usual, Gary keeps it real and doesn't sugarcoat anything - it was the kick in the ass and inspiration I needed to reboot my brand and my business.

The main message I took from this was 'Ultimately, it all boils down to this: don't let perfection be your enemy.'

This was from chapter 11 about YouTube and it really hit home. When I was creating YouTube videos I was constantly re-filming myself because I was scared I didn't say something right or that I stumbled on my words. I let perfection be the enemy. It didn't stop me from filming at the time but it just meant the process was three times longer than it needed to be and I didn't enjoy it as much. After taking a YT hiatus and reading this, I finally feel more ready than ever to get back into filming and stop trying to be so god damn perfect!

I needed this book. Like REALLY needed it. My head wasn't in a good space and my self worth had taken a beating. After listening to a just a few chapters (I got this one through Audible) I really started to tune into myself and it was mainly because of these key messages in the intro (yes it is amazing from the get go!) and chapter 3:

'If you want to live a life you've never lived, you have to do things you've never done' and 'the more time you spend in the moment, the richer your life will be. Being present gets you out of your head and connects you to Source Energy, which raises your frequency, which attracts things of like frequency to you.'

The first statement is so true, not only for me but for a lot of content creators, about life and business. We are constantly complaining about algorithm changes and our engagement being low but are we flipping the script and trying something new or are we telling the same old story? If we continue to do things the same way then how can we expect things to be any different?

I had to do a lot of inner work to do at the time of listening to this book but Jen really gets you into a more positive mindset and reminds you that everything is available to you, if you believe in it and yourself.

Founder of Business Chicks, Emma Isaacs is slaying the game and this book is a must read! I am only half way through this but it is just too good not to mention. In this book Emma shares her journey as an entrepreneur and everything she has learnt and achieved.

The messages which have resonated with me the most so far is 'no one really knows what they are doing' and 'the most successful people I know are the ones who don't care what anyone else is up to'.

When I really thought about that first statement it became so clear to me: no one really knows what they are doing! I mean someone had the balls to give it a go and if it worked they taught others, but in this fast paced world where technology is changing by the second, we are constantly in a state of trial and error, trying to see what works and what doesn't. No one really has it all figured out and once that sank in it was like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders!

The second message was equally as powerful. If I could add up the amount of time I spent focusing on what other people were doing instead of putting my head down and getting on with it I would be so much further ahead! It is so important not to get consumed in what others are doing because at the end of the day, while you might be doing similar things it will NEVER be the same!
