Style Guide: Australian Plus Size Fashion Brands
One thing I love as much as beauty is fashion. As the saying goes 'Style is a way of saying who you are without having to speak' so it is the perfect way to express yourself and your personality. But being a curvy girl can be a challenge at times, especially when shopping in straight size stores and malls, which is why I rely a lot on online shopping.
In Australia plus size garments are considered to be size 16 and upward, which is the equivalent of a US size 12. While I am not a huge fan of the term 'plus size' I am over a size 16 and definitely fit the criteria but I also consider myself to be a healthy and strong person which is ultimately my goal. I know I will never be a skinny person, something I used to obsessively aspire to be, but I am totally comfortable with that now and I just continue to work on being fit and healthy. It took me a long time to stop focusing on the number on a size tag but now I am definitely more focused on finding styles which are a good fit for my body and that make me feel good.
Thankfully a number of online brands and stores have extended their size offering, some up to a size 20-24, and in this post I am going to share some of my favourite Australian online plus size fashion brands and websites and a few of my favourite styles from each.
$ - loose change
$$ - perfect price point
$$$ - splurge
$ + $$ + $$$
I have been an ASOS addict for years! Not only do they showcase a variety of plus size styles and price points but it puts global fashion at your fingertips. Their brand portfolio features US and UK brands which are not available in Australian stores and with express and standard shipping options you can get your fashion fix fast! Their black denim skinny jeans with rips are a must and the beauty of shopping at ASOS is their fantastic returns policy! If a garment doesn't fit or wasn't what you expected simply send it back for a full refund!
I bought my first Missguided dress (above) via ASOS and it was the start of a beautiful friendship! I have since made several purchases directly from their site including tees from their Barbie range, dresses and skirts and they are great quality and fit fabulously!
I have found Boo Hoo to be a bit hit and miss. Some style I have bought have worked a treat and others have literally fallen apart on my body! That's not to say all styles are bad so I still like to give them the benefit of the doubt from time to time. If you are looking for cheap, fast fashion, this is your destination.
I have always admired the Showpo range of beautiful, flowing maxi dresses and cute playsuits so I was super excited to hear that certain styles come in sizes 18 and 20, YAY! I am yet to purchase from the brand but I have my eye on a mustard maxi dress which I definitely need in my life!
I have just purchased my first order from Forever 21 and I can't wait for it to arrive. It was highly recommended by a good friend who is also a plus blogger so I am looking forward to putting my new styles to the test! Keep an eye on my Instagram @marisarobinsonbeauty for a sneak peek!
Pretty Little Thing
In honesty I had no idea Pretty Little Thing had a plus range! But when I saw hottie La'Tecia strutting across my television screen I had to check it out! Their size range goes up to a 20 and I have a wish list a mile long so once I have placed an order I will be sure to share it with you!
One of my fave plus brands on The Iconic is Atmos&Here Curvy. I own a few pieces from their range including a denim mini skirt and this Mustard Mini Dress which is such a gorgeous shade and style. I also love that The Iconic offers 3 hour shipping so I can order my fave styles same day to rock that night!
Some of you may know I used to work at City Chic and while some might gawk at the price of some of their garments I can tell you the quality and fit is definitely there! I am a huge fan of their maxi dresses, swimwear (hallelujah underwire) and live in their denim shorts all summer.
Like all brands, some of their styles will be a hit and some will be a miss. Some will fit to perfection and be amazing quality and some won't. Remember, you get what you pay for but that doesn't mean you need to spend excessive amounts to look good and these days there is ALWAYS a sale online or at least a welcome coupon code to help you save you a few bucks on your first order!
Are you a shopaholic on any of these sites? Let me know in the comments below and what styles you have on your wish list!
