Blogger Spotlight Series: Meet Camille from On A Beauty Bender
Welcome to my new series: Blogger Spotlight where I profile my favourite beauty bloggers and get to know them, their blogging journey, fave products and advice for budding bloggers through a quick Q&A.
This week the blogger spotlight is shining brightly on a gorgeous girl who is beautiful inside and out and creates the most amazing content! She has a makeup collection any girl would be envious of and is mum to a beautiful blue parrot who you will spot in her shots from time to time.
Meet the lovely Camille from On A Beauty Bender.
WHAT'S THE NAME OF YOUR BLOG AND IS THERE A STORY BEHIND THE NAME?
I had been racking my brain for months trying to come up with a name, and then suddenly when having a glass or two of wine, On A Beauty Bender just came to me. I think it really reflects my light-hearted and somewhat quirky style, but also encompasses my obsession with all things beauty related.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING?
Come July I would have been on Instagram for 2 years, but I've been blogging for only 12 months. I'm relatively new compared to some blogging veterans.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT BLOGGING?
I work as an Outreach Adolescent Counsellor during the day, which can be quite draining at times. But after hours I love cooking, paddle boarding and spending time with my partner and our little quaker parrot called Bruce.
HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR BLOGGING CAREER TO DATE
I have had a few experiences that have really made me grateful. Tarte and Too Faced have reposted my photos before, and that has completely blown my mind. To have such huge brands appreciate my work, and feel as though my images were worthy enough to share with their millions of followers is quite humbling. When I first started out, I made all these goals about brands I would love to work with, and when I actually smash those goals, it is pretty incredible. But ultimately meeting like-minded bloggers, that have now become friends, is the biggest highlight of all.
TOP 5 MAKEUP / BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU'D BE LOST WITHOUT
Oh, why you do this to me, Marisa? That's a tough one.
NARS Sheer Glow is my fail-safe foundation. It makes my skin look healthy and flawless without being too heavy or cakey. It also lasts really well on my oil slick of a face.
Eye Of Horus Goddess Mascara is my all-time favourite mascara, and it is something I rarely leave the house without. It is super black, glides on like a clump-free dream and lengthens and defines my lashes like nothing else. Plus, Eye Of Horus is from Byron Bay, so it makes my little patriotic heart sing.
Tarte Quick Dry Lip Paints are the most comfortable, budge-proof, non-drying, pigmented liquid lipsticks I've ever used. The formula is so light that you almost forget that you have them on. I'm particularly fond of the shade 'exposed'.
As much as I love lipsticks, I love a good nourishing balm more. With chronically dry lips all year round, my little smoochers need a little extra loving. Lanolips seriously kill it with their lip products. My favourites are the Peach Multi-Balm and Tinted Balm in Rhubarb.
To give my face the most gorgeous, natural glow I cannot go past Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light. It's almost like airbrushing in a powder. It may not look like much to swatch, but trust me, it adds the most gorgeous softness and glow to the skin.
YOUR SKINCARE SAVIOURS
Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel is my ultimate skin saviour. While on the more expensive end of the scale, these little numbers have completely changed my skin. They're really easy to use, super practical but mighty effective.
Skinstitut Glyolic Scrub is another product that has made a huge difference to my skin. Its a chemical/physical exfoliator hybrid that really refines the skin and gets to work on those pesky blackheads. I use this a few times a week as a scrub, or I leave a thicker layer on my face for a few minutes if my skin is really waging war against me.
Can you tell I'm obsessed with AHA's?!
BLOGS YOU LOVE TO READ + FOLLOW
I love blogs that don't hold back, there is just something so refreshing about honesty. Beauty In Bold is certainly a blogger that tells it like it is, Soren's reviews are so detailed and informative; they really are a pleasure to read. I also love RachelBeautyStyle, FaceofSJW, MoreThanAdored, BowsAndPleats, TahanaLee and Marisa (dur), among many, many others.
BLOGGERS YOU ADMIRE
I really admire bloggers that are able to maintain consistent content while working, parenting or studying full-time - this is no easy feat. It just goes to show how passionate some bloggers are. So shout out to all your fabulous women managing your busy lives, as well as your side hustle. You're the real #girlbosses
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO BECOME A BEAUTY BLOGGER
Don't hesitate to start - I um-ed and ahh-ed for years before I started blogging, and I just wish I had taken the leap straight away.
I also think that quality, consistency and honesty will always shine through in this over-saturated market. So take the time to get the perfect shot, or the right blog angle and spend time genuinely interacting with your followers. Quality is always better than quantity.
