Blogger Spotlight Series: Meet Leah of Temporary Princess
Welcome to my new series: Blogger Spotlight where I profile my favourite beauty bloggers and get to know them, their blogging journey, fave products and advice for budding bloggers through a quick Q&A.
This week the blogger spotlight is shining brightly on my blogging partner in crime. I met this gorgeous girl just over a year ago but it feels like I have known her for a lifetime! We share the same amount of passion and love for cats as we do for makeup and you can always count on her for great reviews of the latest skincare and beauty products!
Meet the fabulous Leah of Temporary Princess!
WHAT'S THE NAME OF YOUR BLOG AND IS THERE A STORY BEHIND THE NAME?
Temporary Princess. I remember being really stumped for a name, but dying to start a blog, so I thought - why not take from real life? Thus, Temporary Princess was born, and that's because in real life, I don't wear a lot of makeup, and my job can get kinda gross, hence, on my day off, I can pile it on, get girly and just generally get gussied up and play with makeup!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING?
It's been almost 4 years!
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT BLOGGING?
I'm an absolute cat lady when I'm away from the computer! In real life, I enjoy binge watching seasons of sci-fi shows (which is weird, as I don't appreciate it in book form), hanging out with my cat, Muffin, and of course, spending about 85% of my life at work, where I'm a full time veterinarian. Blogging, for me, is a way to unwind, and talk about something else that I'm passionate about, which is beauty.
HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR BLOGGING CAREER TO DATE
I remember the first time I went to a Lush event - I was over the moon! Just the idea that I was getting to see and touch some new on the market goodies was making me combust. I think that blogger events are definitely some of my favourite things to go to. Given that my social life is very limited due to my work life sucking up most of my time (I saw a meme that said,"Personal life issues? Be a medical professional - no personal life, no problems!), this is a good time for me to come out of my shell a little, and talk to people I have a lot in common with, which is basically makeup and beauty. Honestly, every time I get to attend a blogger event, or meet the face behind a certain brand (some of these entrepreneurs are amazing women!), it hits me just how lucky I am.
TOP 5 MAKEUP / BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU'D BE LOST WITHOUT
This is hard! Let's see, I'll have to think about this like I'm able to go to a desert island with carry-on luggage. At this point, they would have to be:
Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Bombshell - total go to colour for that nude lip look.
Bourjois Felt Tip Eyeliner in Black - stays on, super easy eyeliner to use.
Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow - a MUST HAVE for brows daily!
Rimmel Magni'feyes in Keep Calm and Wear Go - seriously has been my daily palette for the last couple of months!
Nars Blush in Orgasm - one of the few blushes I've ever hit pan on!
YOUR SKINCARE SAVIOURS
Anything with SPF in it for daytime wear! Too hard to pick one brand, but off the top of my head, what I'm loving include La Roche Posay and Sunsense, as these do them at SPF 50+. For a good serum, it's hard to go past Antipodes' Hosanna - pretty freaking awesome! As for a quick skin pick me up for time poor babes, Biore's Self Heating One Minute Face Mask and Kate Somerville's Exfolikate are both excellent - can't love those enough!
BLOGS YOU LOVE TO READ + FOLLOW
These babes have a way of drawing you in with their words, and they are funny and lovely, plenty of them being wonderful people both online and in person. These are:
Marisa Robinson MUA - her pictures, as you might know, are always stunning.
Sweetaholic Beauty - Jasmine is definitely not one to have airs about her, she writes in an upbeat manner and reviews products in a way that makes me want to buy them.
Lily Not Louise - the first time we ever met, she hugged me straight off the bat. She uses bullet points sometimes for pros and cons and is plainly honest about the products she tries.
Lab Muffin - Michelle's crazy awesome knowledge of chemistry will have you questioning all the beauty myths you know and have heard.
The Madeup Maiden - She's funny and a great shopping buddy! Nalini's nails are perfection every single time, and her posts are all very detailed.
Doaner-fide - Brows on fleek, even with a baby attached, this girl's passion for food and make up is something else!
To be honest, there are so many excellent bloggers out there, you have to read a ton, and find some that resonate with you.
BLOGGERS YOU ADMIRE
See above! What I love about blogging is that each event, or product release, gives me the chance to meet like-minded bloggers, and ultimately, what I admire most about the bloggers I meet is how they manage to juggle everything, and still be so excited about makeup, skincare and beauty. That, and learning new tips and tricks - always fun to learn something new!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO BECOME A BEAUTY BLOGGER
Do it because you love it, not because of the potential perks. I think we're at an age where there might be more of a 'why not me' mentality sometimes, and there are times when I've been contacted and asked how to get 'free stuff' from companies. That's not the attitude that should be behind your drive to blog. I know that I singlehandedly managed to help my sister in New York achieve the VIB Rouge status at Sephora - that's how much beauty stuff I buy! And yes, while I sometimes do get products from companies to review, I still fuel my need to get the newest and shiniest beauty goodies out there by buying tons of stuff. Bottom line - do it because you absolutely love it and want to help people by talking through a review, or by giving them makeup ideas, but not because your goal is to have it all handed to you.
