Beauty Blogger Spotlight: Meet Sarah of Bows & Pleats
Welcome to my new series: Blogger Spotlight where I profile my favourite beauty bloggers and get to know them, their blogging journey, fave products and advice for budding bloggers through a quick Q&A.
This week I am showcasing a beautiful blogger who I have been following and inspired by since before I even started my blogging journey. While we haven't met in person I love her talent, kindness and her Instagram feed is definitely one to follow! This gorgeous girl is also one hell of a Kris Kringle giver and spoiled me last year with some gorgeous products I had been dying to try!
Meet the one and only Sarah of Bows & Pleats!
WHAT'S THE NAME OF YOUR BLOG AND IS THERE A STORY BEHIND THE NAME?
The name of my blog is Bows & Pleats. The name was inspired by Triple J Unearthed band, Kissy Trouble who have a song called Bows and Pleats. They are from Brisbane and I heard them play it when I was first visiting the city. It became one of my favourite songs and served as inspiration when I was picking my blog name which I started shortly after moving to Australia. The name reminds me of everything I wanted my blog to be, feminine, bubbly and warm. I also like that I can write about anything I want, not just beauty.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING?
I've been blogging since Mid 2013, so 3 1/2 years now. It has flown by to be honest. I started it as a way to connect with other people who loved makeup as much as me. I didn't have too many friends when I first moved to Australia to be with my now husband, so it was a way that I felt connected with others and could share my passion.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT BLOGGING?
I work full time in the community mental health sector. I graduated with my psychology degree from Canada, so I'm pretty passionate about the area of mental health and reducing stigma everyday. I've just enrolled in uni so I can eventually become a registered psychologist. When I'm not working or blogging, I also love doing freelance makeup and completed a MUA course last year. I also love travelling and visit home (Newfoundland, Canada) whenever I can afford it.
HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR BLOGGING CAREER TO DATE
The biggest highlight I have had was working with one of my favourite makeup brands, Benefit Cosmetics. When I was first sent a PR package from them, it really highlighted that hard work and persistence can certainly pay off. I also got to attend one of their brow masterclasses, which was amazing and so much fun. The best thing about blogging in general that has happened to me, is the amazing network of bloggers and friends I have made both in Brisbane and online. I have found friends for life.
TOP 5 MAKEUP / BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU'D BE LOST WITHOUT
1. Too Faced Born This Way foundation since that is my favourite base for going out.
2. Becca Highlighter in Champagne Pop because you gotta have that glow!
3. Australis Fresh and Flawless Powder can do no wrong for setting your makeup.
4. MAC Powder Blush in Warm Soul is the most natural looking and gorgeous blush.
5. Benefit Roller Lash because it's the best mascara I've ever tried!
YOUR SKINCARE SAVIOURS
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask, Skinstitut Retinol Serum and the Nuxe Anti-Fatigue Moisturising Cream have been my obsessions lately.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO BECOME A BEAUTY BLOGGER
I would definitely say go for it, but only if you have lots of passion for it since it is a labour of love. I think a lot of people see PR products that bloggers and YouTubers receive and assume they come for free with little to no effort. However, each and every brand collaboration or offer takes lots of work, communication, and drive which happens behind the scenes. I love blogging for the amazing network of people I have met, from bloggers to my own readers that I get to connect with! It's an amazing thing.
