Blogger Spotlight Series: Meet Laura of The Life of Laura
Welcome to my new series: Blogger Spotlight where I profile my favourite beauty bloggers and get to know them, their blogging journey, fave products and advice for budding bloggers through a quick Q&A.
This week the blogger spotlight is shining brightly on a lovely lady I have been following for quite some time but only just had the pleasure of meeting in person. I am a huge fan of her beauty reviews and truly value and appreciate the time and effort she puts into each and every post and shot - they are just beautiful!
Please welcome the lovely Laura of The Life of Laura.
WHAT'S THE NAME OF YOUR BLOG AND IS THERE A STORY BEHIND THE NAME?
The Life of Laura - not really a story behind it, but I wanted something that encompassed what I was trying to create. I guess I wanted to share little tid bits from my life, so after trying numerous different names, The Life of Laura just kind of clicked.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING?
11 months (12 months as of April!)
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT BLOGGING?
When I am not blogging I am a full time student, studying high school teaching (specialising in teaching). I teach piano and violin, as well as run a number of music groups, for work. Which is exhausting, but so rewarding. If I'm not doing that, then you will find me reading, playing basketball, or trying to keep a healthy social life!
HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR BLOGGING CAREER TO DATE
There were probably two big highlights so far. 1. Attending my first event in March, it was amazing to finally meet so many bloggers who I had been following since I started, and them actually recognising and knowing who I was. It was a really exciting moment! 2. Was being announced Bloggers Connect's (a blogging community, founded in UK) blogger of the month in February this year. This happened after I made a whole lot of changes to my blog, so it was super exciting to realising that I was on the right track.
TOP 5 MAKEUP / BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU'D BE LOST WITHOUT
1. NYX BB Cream - the first BB Cream I discovered that actually suits my pale white skin tone, and also has amazing coverage, without feeling like you are wearing anything at all. I'd be lost without this for every day wear.
2. Poni Cosmetics White Knight Mascara - The only mascara I've discovered that creates both simple, and bold lashes WITHOUT smudging under my eyes.
3. Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick - the perfect nude lipstick that is easy to apply and has the most beautiful packaging in the world (look, I love anything that is rose gold, so I was easily won over).
4. Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector - the best way to hide those dark circles under your eyes, plus it doesn't crease or go dry and cakey.
5. Beauty Blender - almost needs no explanation, it's a staple for so many people. Makes make up application easy.
YOUR SKINCARE SAVIOURS
A good cleanser: The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter - My absolute favourite way to remove make up. Creamy, easy and gentle. Everything you need in a cleanser and more.
A good lip balm - Moo Goo Cow Lick Lip Balm - hydrating as anything.
SPF - Mecca To Save Face Superscreen SPF 50+ - I have only just realised how important SPF is, so I now aim to apply it every morning. The Mecca sunscreen makes it easy because it doesn't even seem like you're wearing any sunscreen at all.
BLOGS YOU LOVE TO READ + FOLLOW
Yours of course! I have always loved reading your blog posts Marisa!!! But I also love reading: Rachel (rachelbeautystyle), which are always so informative and easy to read; Felicia (thebeautyandthegeek), which are always so in depth. Want to know why an ingredient works? She can tell you exactly why!; Zoe Foster Blake (zotheysay), who posts the funniest, yet also informative posts. She was actually one of the reasons I got into blogging, and I still love to have a flick through her blog from time to time!
BLOGGERS YOU ADMIRE
Samantha (shewritesaboutit) - she has become such a close friend since I started, and always has my back when I have issues or challenges, or just need someone to talk to!
Mel (aussiebeautystyle) - who is always so lovely and so unique! Her videos are always funny, I seriously wish I could be that funny in my posts...
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO BECOME A BEAUTY BLOGGER
Don't be afraid to give it a go! I could never have imagined that my blog would have as much interest as it has, and that I would've met the people that I have when I started. I am so glad for the day that I went 'why the hell not!' and started my blog, I am so happy that I did. Also be involved, join the community and engage with as many other bloggers as you can. It will have its ups and downs and there will always be someone out there who wants to bring you down, but they are far outweighed by the supportive community that you will find yourself in.
