Alpha-H Liquid Gold Smoothing & Perfecting Mask Review
I feel like this was the perfect time to try the Alpha-H range. My skin has been so troublesome the past couple of weeks, breakouts galore and oiler than usual, sigh! So I was super excited to receive the Alpha-H Liquid Gold Smoothing and Perfecting Mask to try and put to the ultimate test!
I decided to start off with the face mask, it was the perfect way to end a busy day. The mask contains 15% Glycolic Acid, lavender and essential oils to exfoliate, smooth and hydrate the skin and comes in a tube so it's really easy to control the amount of product you decant.
The label recommends to apply the mask as follows:
'After thoroughly cleansing the skin, apply weekly to the face, neck and décolletage. Leave on the skin for a maximum of ten minutes and remove with a warm damp face cloth.'
So that's exactly what I did! I removed my makeup, cleansed with miceller water and a cream cleanser for a thoroughly clean base and then applied the mask to my face and neck using my fingers. After reading on the tube that 'a mild tingling sensation may be experienced' I worked with small amounts, not completely rubbing it in so it was a thin lather. Then I kicked back and watched Made In Chelsea for ten minutes before removing it with a warm wash cloth. My skin only felt a very slight tingle after applying and it was mainly around the areas i'd broken out in, but my skin is not very sensitive and takes a lot to get a reaction. Removing it with a warm wash was perfect and mess free - normally I just wash masks off and water ends up everywhere!
My first impressions after removing the mask were that my skin definitely felt smoother, a lot more balanced and not as oily. They weren't lying when they said it was 'a powerful fast acting dual performance mask designed to exfoliate, clarify and brighten the skin'. But I wanted to sleep on it and see what my skin looked and felt like the next day.
Fast forward 12 hours and my skin is definitely brighter! I even did a double take ten minutes later to make sure I wasn't seeing things! My skin still felt soft and smooth and while it hasn't made the breakout around my chin magically disappear it has reduced the redness significantly. I don't plan on wearing makeup today but I will be applying a sunscreen as Alpha-H states the mask 'may make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF15+ when using this product and for a week after you discontinue use.' To be safe I will wear 50+, this pasty skin doesn't like the sun at the best of times!
It suggests to use this mask once a week and I am definitely going to make this part of my weekly routine, at least until my skin is back to its normal self. Then depending on how it looks and feels, I might give it a break and space the masks out to every fortnight.
