Benefit Cosmetics Brow Collection Review

Marisa Robinson Makeup Artist Benefit Cosmetics Brow Collection

To celebrate the new Benefit Cosmetics Brow Collection officially launching in store and online in Australia this Friday (22/7), I wanted to share my favourite new products from the range and how they can transform your brows from drab to fab!

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend the Benefit Australia SPECTACULAR!
SPECTACULAR! Brow Launch and it was just that and so much more! Not only was it a chance to catch up with fellow beauty babes, have your fortune told and eat fairy floss but it was an opportunity to get up close and personal with the new products and try them for ourselves.

In this post I will share a couple of looks I have created using the new range including a breakdown of the products and how I used them, my thoughts and some helpful tips.

But before we get started let's do a quick recap on the anatomy of an eyebrow and how to determine the shape of your brows. There are three key points to your brow:
the start, the arch and the tail.

1. The start begins in the centre of the face and should line up with the side of your nostril.
2. The arch is the highest point of the brow and goes on a diagonal from the side of the nostril straight through the iris of the eye. This will land about 2/3 of the way through your brow. You don't want the arch to be in the centre or you will look permanently surprised!
3. The tail of the brow is where it finishes and again is on a diagonal from the side of the nostril and is in line with the outer corner of your lower eye line.

To help get the right shape, create a guide by using a brow pencil to lightly mark out these three points and then join them together.

I class this as my everyday go-to, brow look. It might look OTT to some but I over-plucked my eyebrows as a teen and unfortunately they never fully grew back so they are a little sparse in areas. I'm not embarrassed to go out without makeup by any means but I just feel more put together when I have my brows done.

Step 1 - Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil
(Shade 3 used)

This double ended pencil has a brow pencil on one end and a spoolie brush on the other end. I start by combing my natural brow hairs with the spoolie brush in an upwards motion to neaten them up and determine my natural brow hairline. I then flip the pencil around and starting from the centre, I work the colour through my brows to fill them in and create shape. I like to do 4-5 strokes and then comb the spoolie brush through them to blend the colour and check my progress. Continue to do this on both eyes until you create the shape you desire.

What I love most about this brow pencil is the shape of the custom tip. It has a pointed end to define (perfect for the tail of the brow) and a wider tip to fill the brows - it is definitely Goof Proof by name and nature and saves me so much time when I am doing my brows each morning!

Step 2: Benefit Cosmetics Brow Zings
(Shade 3 used)

Because this is my everyday look I like my brows to appear more natural. To do this I go in on top of the brow pencil with a brow powder on an angled brush which you can find in the Benefit Cosmetics Brow Zings compact. Dip the angled brush into the powder, tap off the excess, work it through your brows and then take a spoolie brush and comb through to blend and soften.

The Brow Zings compact is the ultimate kit for brow sculpting and contains brow wax, powder, mini slant tweezers and a custom, extendable dual-ended brush. It is perfect for travelling or keeping in your handbag to ensure your brows are always on point or to remove any unwelcome stray hairs!

Step 3: Benefit Cosmetics Ready, Set Brow
(Shade 3 used)

To keep any natural brow hairs in place, I like to use a clear brow gel. Most of the brow gels I have used in the past are just applied with a standard shaped spoolie brush and it has certainly done the trick. But what I love about the Benefit Cosmetics Ready, Set, Brow! is the custom wand which has long bristles on one side to evenly coat the brow hairs and then short bristles on the other side to sculpt and shape the hairs in place. Even the tip of the wand can be used to define the tail of the brow for a precise and polished finish.

TA DA! In just 3 easy steps I have created a quick and easy brow look perfect for everyday!

When I go out I like to take my makeup from zero to one hundred and defined brows are an important part of this process!

In order to create this brow look I followed step 1 from my Go-To Brow look (above) and then go in with the Precisely, My Brow Pencil, Benefit Ka-Brow! Cream-Gel Pomade and High Brow, before setting my brows in place with Ready, Set, Brow! Keep reading below to see how I like to use these products to get the look.

Step 1 - Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil (as above)

Step 2: Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil
(Shade 3 used)

I didn't think I would ever find a brow pencil as good as my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. If you are a regular on my blog you will know I use it in almost every 'Get The Look' tutorial and it is a staple to getting my non-existent brows on point. But then I met the Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil and it changed everything!

When I create a glam look (check out my latest glam look here) I really like to define the tail of my brows and the precise tip on this pencil is perfect for that! Once I have created the brow shape I desire using the Goof Proof Brow Pencil (step 1) I then carefully draw in a fine tail ensuring it finishes in line with my lower eye line.

This pencil is also great for creating fine, hair-like strokes for a more natural look. I really like the formula of this pencil and just like the Goof Proof Brow Pencil it is soft and glides through my brows with ease.

Step 3: Benefit Cosmetics Ka-Brow!
(Shade 3 used)

Benefit Cosmetics Ka-Brow! is the key to really intensifying the look of my brows. Like a pomade, this cream-gel brow colour creates a long lasting, more dramatic look but it's the bottle on this baby that is genius. To use, pull the brush out from the cap and then turn it around and stick the end of the brush into the top of the cap to create a longer handle for better control and accuracy when applying. You then unscrew the cap to reveal the cream-gel and you're on your way to defined, dramatic brows!

Step 4: Benefit Cosmetics High Brow
(also available in High Brow Glow)

To define and highlight my brow bone I like to go in with the Benefit Cosmetics High Brow Pencil. This creamy, highlighting pencil creates an instant brow lift and blends out beautifully. Simply apply the pencil under your brows following the arch and blend out with a synthetic brush.

Step 5: Benefit Cosmetics Ready, Set Brow (as above)

For those days when I am time poor or can't be bothered doing my brows the Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow is my hero! This brow-volumizing fiber gel is applied with the custom brush to create fuller more natural looking brows.

This was demonstrated on me during the event and you start by brushing it against your natural brow to really coat the hairs with the tiny microfibers before brushing through the brows to define and shape the brows. The tiny tapered brush also blends the formula into your natural brow hairs and gives them a tint of colour.

This is only a handful of the new products from the Benefit Cosmetics Brow Collection (I am still experimenting with the others) and I highly suggest that you head to your nearest Benefit counter to check out the full range.

The collection comes in a range of shades, from light to dark, so you can be sure there is a colour to suit you. If you don't feel comfortable purchasing the colours online head to your nearest Benefit Cosmetics counter and the girls will be able to help you select the perfect shade.

When shopping online, if a brands website doesn't have swatches of the colour range on people, I like to use Instagram and YouTube as a reference. Simply type in the product hashtag or search for the product name to see the results of people using and wearing the product. With user generated content being created around the world by the second you are sure to get a good idea of the colour range and what might best suit you.

And remember:
Brows are sisters not twins so they won't always be identical.
But when you are having a brows on fleek moment, Snapchat the hell out of them!
