Get The Look: Wingin' It

Marisa Robinson Makeup Artist Wingin' It

May the wings of your eyeliner always be even!

In my latest look I have created a grungy yet glam makeup style using the shade I am obsessing over this season - Spicy Mustard! Plus I share another 90's style revival - the return of preppy in plaid!

Hydrate the skin using Mac Prep + Prime Fix+ and then apply Smashbox Photo Finish Primer to the entire face to create a smooth base and to reduce any visible pores. Prep the lips using a lip scrub and balm to make them soft and smooth.

Dot Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation to the face and blend with a damp Beauty Blender.

Conceal under the eyes and using the Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer and set the eyes and face using Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Setting Powder.

Contour the face using 'Sombre' from the Kat Von D's Shade + Light Contour Palette and then define the contour and bake using a dry Beauty Blender and the shade 'Lyric' from the same palette.  Add some colour to the cheeks using theToo Faced Pink Leopard Blushing Bronzer and blend back into your contour.

Using a fan brush lightly highlight the tops of the cheekbones, cupids bow and brow bone with 'Champagne Pop' from Becca Cosmetics.

Shape and feather the brows using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in 'Medium Brown' and with an angle brush fill in using the taupe shadow form the Bobbi Brown Brow Kit. Lightly apply the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel to hold any natural brow hairs in place.

To define the brows and brow bone take the Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer on an angled concealer brush and lightly apply under the brows and blend out.

Apply Lorac Behind The Scenes Eye Primer on the eyelids to create a smooth base and lightly dust a neutral shadow over the top (I used the light shade from the NARS 'Madrague' Eyeshadow Duo).

For my eyes I used shades from the Inglot Australia Freedom System Range (I will list the shadow numbers below) but feel free to use your favourite eyeshadows to create this look.

With a fluffy blending brush apply a a taupe shadow into the crease (I used '#357' by Inglot). Go back and forth in a fast, light handed motion to blend.

Once done, get a flat brush and pack a mustard yellow shadow over the entire lid (I used '#616' by Inglot) working it up to the crease. You may need to build up the shadow to get a nice, even coverage.

Then with a clean fluffy brush lightly blend in the crease to fuse the two colours together.

Using a pencil brush, apply the same taupe shade to the outer bottom lash line, half way along and then use the same mustard yellow shade and work it half way along to the inner corner. Then take a clean fluffy brush and lightly blend over the top of both shades, lightly smoking it out.

For the brow bone highlight apply a light gold shimmer (I used '#09' by Inglot).

Line the top waterline with a black kohl eyeliner - I used Mac Kohl Power Eye Pencil in 'Feline' and leave the bottom waterline free of eyeliner.

Line the upper lash line creating a winged eye line with the Maybelline EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner and coat the lashes with the Smashbox X-Rated Mascara before applying Social Eyes 'Alluring' Lashes to add some lash drama! To define the lash line and hide the lash band, sweep the Sephora Liquid Liner over the top lash line.

Line and fill the lips using the Too Faced Perfect Lips Lip Liner in 'Nude' and coat the lips with Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in 'Celebrity Skin' for the ultimate 90's lip.

Keep it chic with a pop of colour using the Kevin Murphy Colour Bug! They come in a variety of shades and are available from bellabox for $24.95.

Tai from Clueless is the perfect example of grunge turned girly - pre and post her Cher makeover!

When we first meet Tai she is the epitome of grunge: band/troll tees and plaid shirts which we explored in part 1. But after her makeover she transforms into a girly girl in preppy plaid which we are going to cover in part 2.

The styles from City Chic's latest collection ‘The Edit’ are perfect for recreating a preppy in plaid look!
