The 'Secret' to Instagram Success - 3 thing you need to know!
If you opened this article hoping to find the secret formula to Instagram success then you're in the right place. Well, kind of. The first secret is that there is no secret. BUT there are 3 things you can start doing today that will increase your Instagram engagement and take your Gram game from zero to one hundred.
In this post I share 3 key factors to Instagram success.
1. Consistency is Key
If you want to grow a loyal and active Instagram following you need to be posting more than once a week. In fact, I would recommend posting at least once a day if you can. Having a consistent posting schedule keeps your followers engaged and your feed top of mind. With Instagram feeds no longer in chronological order and the algorithm making it harder than ever, you need to ensure you have new content going up regularly so your followers are not left hanging or venturing elsewhere for their content fix.
To make scheduling posts easier, you can use tools such as Later or HootSuite to keep organised and so you aren't scrambling every day for a new post, you know exactly what is going up. Be strategic with your posts and captions to keep your feed looking fresh and relevant.
2. Quality over Quantity
While it is important to post regularly the quality of your content is first and foremost. When someone lands on your Instagram page you want them to be wowed and hit that follow button. You don't want them to take one look and click away. Create content which is not only visually appealing but that is authentic and true to you and your aesthetic.
From a branding perspective, your Instagram feed should be a magazine of your best work. It is a portfolio and the first impression you make when someone discovers your account for the first time. Save your lunch and silly selfies for Insta Stories and create a beautifully curated feed your followers will love.
I cannot stress enough how important engagement is. Imagine in real life if you never reached out to your friends. After awhile they probably wouldn't reach out to you either and you would be left feeling pretty sad and lonely. The same method applies to Instagram. I have tried this myself (not on purpose, but you know sometimes life gets busy and Instagram isn't a priority) and as soon as you stop making an effort so do your followers. I tried comment pods for awhile but in honesty I am no longer using them because I was spending way too much time trying to catch up on everyone else's posts that I wasn't enjoying the Instagram journey. I know some people dedicate 2-3 hours a day just engaging with others and you know what? The proof is in the pudding. Their numbers and engagement levels highlight that level of dedication. But the average person probably doesn't have that kind of time to spare each day just on Instagram so don't be hard on yourself, do what you can and build solid relationships which you will see blossom into Insta friendships.
As a brand, connecting with your followers is definitely key. Build trust and loyalty with them by engaging regularly and asking them what they want to see more of. Not only will it give you direction for future content but they will feel like their opinion is valued. Another thing I still see in businesses is that social media is an after thought. We are in the 21st Century people! Instagram has are over 800 million active users every month, don't you want a piece of the action? Invest in the right people to monitor and engage on your platforms, especially if you plan on using Instagram as a selling tool. Ensure the person is using the right tone of voice for your customers and stay on brand (trust me I have seen this go downhill real quick with the wrong person!). I would highly recommend you hire someone dedicated to social media because it IS a full time job and you need to keep the conversion flowing.
After reading these tips they probably sound like no brainers but start putting them into practice and I promise your engagement and follower count will soar!
