What's In My Makeup Bag - Bali Edition
I am renowned for overpacking. I tend to like to take all my favourite things 'just in case'. I remember a few years ago before I was due to head to Europe I had a couple of friends come over for a packing intervention where they unpacked and repacked my whole suitcase with only the things I would need!
One thing travelling over the years has taught me is how little you can live with and how much 'stuff' we consume and hoard. While I haven't mastered a minimalist lifestyle quite yet I am getting better at packing light.
In this post I am going to share what I am packing in my makeup case for my upcoming trip to Bali. It may seem like a lot but last year I took about 3 times this amount and I didn't even use it all so this is only the essentials! Keep in mind this is just makeup, I have a separate bag for skincare, haircare and toiletries which I have also condensed down to essentials.
CLIMATE: TROPICAL / HUMID
I went to Bali last year and it was hot and humid, which is going to make a nice change to this cold, winter weather we are currently having in Sydney. But one mistake I made was taking a lot of cream based products: eyeshadows, blushes, bronzers etc. While I love these products for a sun kissed glow, trust me when I say most of what I put on my face melted straight off or looked more 'oily' than dewy. They key is definitely to lock your makeup down and I personally found using powders and setting sprays was the way to go. Also, while I love makeup I definitely want a quick and easy makeup look so I can spend more time at the beach and bar!
Mecca Jet Set Travel Bag - Blush Pink
I have SO many makeup bags but they are either too big or too small. This one from Mecca had received a lot of hype and was now available in blush so it was a sign I had to make it mine. This case is made of 2 clear plastic compartments that can be used to store all your beauty essentials, all while being able to see what’s inside! I gave myself a challenge to only take this case filled with makeup and while it may have taken me three hours to swatch my favourite products and narrow down my options, I have successfully filled the case with my must have beauty products.
Primer: First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Primer + Moisturiser - this primer is beautiful. Not only does it smell amazing but it makes my skin hydrated and fresh.
Foundation: Cover FX Natural Finish Foundation - this creates a beautiful base
Concealer: Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer - hopefully my relaxing holiday will eliminate the dark circles but if not there is always this Boi-ing concealer.
Illuminator: Becca Cosmetics 'Opal' Shimmering Skin Perfector - this cult classic is perfect for mixing with my foundation for a sun kissed glow or used solo on the high points of the face.
Powder: Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation - this not only provides a bit of extra coverage but locks my look in place.
Cover FX Click Stick Baton: This is perfect for on the go and you can customise what clicks it contains. I have inserted a Cover Click Foundation so I can do touch ups throughout the day and the Enhance Click in 'Bubbly' for a glow mo!
EYES + LASHES
Eyeshadow Primer: Too Faced Shadow Insurance - I like to prep my lids before applying my eyeshadow and this does the trick!
Palette: Kylie Cosmetics Take Me On Vacation Palette - If you saw my latest tutorial (click here to check it out) you will know exactly why I chose this palette. The shadows are beautifully pigmented, blendable and come in tropical inspired shades!
Glitter: Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow 'Kitten Karma' - every holiday needs a touch of glitz and glam and this is the perfect way to achieve it!
Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara - I never leave home without my holy grail!
Eyeliner: Makeup Geek Cosmetics 'Espresso' Full Spectrum Eyeliner - I like running a dark brown liner along the lash line to intensify and define my eyes.
Eyeliner: Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner 'Out of the Blue'* - this shade in the waterline would add the perfect pop of colour!
Pencil: Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil* - the fastest and most fool proof way to fill my brows is with the Goof Proof Brow Pencil!
Gel: Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow* - I like to use this as a gel to lock any natural brow hairs in place and to also give my brows a fuller finish.
CHEEKS + FACE
Bronzer: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer* - this gives me the golden glow I have always wanted!
Contour: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Quickie Contour Stick* - perfect for on the go, this contour stick glides on and blends out beautifully.
Blush: Milani Cosmetics 'Luminoso' Blush - this is the most perfect peach shade and it has a lovely shimmer and shine.
Highlighter: Laura Gellar 'Peach Glow' Gelato Swirl Highlighter* - this is so stunning! The colour pay off is amazing and it is the perfect way to faux that glow!
I could never just take one lip product, I wouldn't even know where to start! So I am taking a combination of lipsticks and glosses to either wear solo or combine for a fabulous finish!
Gloss: Kylie Cosmetics x Koko K Gloss 'Damn Gina'
Gloss: Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss #722
Liquid Lipstick: Kylie Cosmetics 'Bare' Velvet Liquid Lipstick
Lip Creme: Jouer 'Praline' Metallic Lip Creme
Lip Topper: Jouer 'Skinny Dip' Lip Topper
Lipstick: Estée Lauder 'Hot Chills' Pure Color Envy Hi-Lustre Lipstick*
Liner: Too Faced Perfect Lips Lip Liner
Due to most of the face products coming with brushes I have managed to only need to take eye brushes and my trusty makeup sponge.
Sponge: Original Beautyblender - the secret to a flawless finish!
Brushes: I have packed some of my favourite brushes from the following brands:
It Cosmetics Concealer and Eye Brush
Like I mentioned my skincare, haircare and toiletries are packed in a separate bag. If you would like to see what I packed let me know in the comments below.
